What are the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requirements? Your responsibilities when practising in Australia. The role of a dental hygienist is to remove plaque, stain and calculus (tartar) from teeth and to teach patients how to maintain oral health.

Your Registration as a Dental Hygienist – Dental Board of Australia

Every registered Dental Hygienist in Victoria should have received a letter from the Dental Board of Australia & Dr John Lockwood (Chair, Dental Board of Australia), stating the new national scheme for the registration and accreditation of health practitioners (including Dental Hygienists is being introduced.
The scheme is scheduled to start on 1 July 2010.

The new CPD cycle will also start on 1 July 2010. Basically, Dental Hygienists will be required to accumulate a minimum of 60 hours per 3 year cycle (80% of these 60 hours must be clinically or scientific based. More information can be found on the website.
